1995 48hp Evenrude spl Water in engine case

Found some water leaking in the Engine case at the bottom. Cannot figure out where it is coming from. Engine runs good,no over heating. Has anybody experienced this problem or has any idea of where to start looking. Thanks

Without actually seeing the motor, my first thought is leaking powerhead base gasket. Get it checked out and fixed, you shouldn't have water in there.<br /><br />-John

How much water is it ? I had a couple of drops flowong around, It was rainwater entering as the gasket between upper and underpart of hood wasnt totally proof. It could also be from telltale hose, running from exhaust side to a plastic jet on other side. But this is rare. Another gues could be waterjacket cover on cylinderhead, or as John says headgasket.

Baitbucket.... I'd suggest that you run the engine with a flushette, having the water turned on to full force, run the tngine and observe the powerhead section to see if any leakages occurs. Works for me.

It appears to me that the water is coming from up front near the bottom of the engine. I just cannot tell the exact point of where it is coming from. I flushed it using the ear muffs and that is when I noticed the water. It's definately not rain water. I have ruled out the Telltale. Thanks for the replies. I'm on my why out to pull the engine cover and scratch my head some more.

It could sound like the gasket under powerhead, like John suggested.<br /><br />do the earmuffwatchtrich

What's the ear muff watch trick? Any suggestions to determining if the water is from under the gasket. Thanks

Thnaks to all who responded great forum. I had the problem checked out and it turned out to be the powerhead gasket. <br /><br />Chumbucket looks like fishing is on hold until the repairs are done
