1995 48hp evinrude Losing power?

I cannot seem to get the boat (15ft sylvan space deck) to plane out. You can here the rpms on the engine when you punch it and then it looses power. I have changed the spark plug and the water seperator. The only other thing I can think of is to clean the carb. any suggestions or thoughts as to where else I can look for the cause? Could it be a fuel problem that I have not touched on?

Howdy BB.<br /><br />You need to do some very basic tests.<br /><br />With the engine idling, disable each spark plug. If the engine dies or drops rpm that is a good cylinder. If there is no change, that is a dead cylinder.<br /><br />Confirm that each spark plug lead will make a 1/2" arc to the block.<br /><br />If you have a dead cylinder with good spark, squirt some fuel mix into that carb.<br /><br />Finally, do a compression check.<br /><br />Let us know what you find.
