1995 50 hp force won't idle.

Motor basically runs good.
Last night...it died and wouldn't idle after starting.

This morning...same thing.
Motor will fire up, put it back in idle position & motor dies.

Any ideas?

A bit more detail on this problem...

Side mounted controls, quicksilver brand. Have to raise throttle lever past "fast idle" to get it to start....when I lower the throttle lever she dies.
Just started this.

Is there a switch in this control system I can check?
Is it something electronic?
gas flow is good, filter shows 3/4 level after priming bulb.
checked the idle mixture screw, adj. to 1-1/8 as previous posts have suggested.

Any help on this one?

Check for fire....could be a bad coil pack

Thanks, I replaced both coils just over a month ago.

Do a compression test.
Once it's running, does gas spray from the front of the carb?(reeds)
Do a spark test.
Even new coils can go bad????
On the choke/primer there is a small hose going to the carb.
Pinch it off and see if it helps?Sometime the diaphragm in the primer goes bad and the carb floods.
