This would have been my 3rd outing in a week since I put my boat in. Wouldn't start today. Turned over fine , but no go. I have an onboard gas tank and put in fresh fuel to start the season. Usually starts without pumping the bulb. Pumped bulb and could not get to firm up at all. The gas line and bulb from the tank to quick connect were new last year. Has new fuel filter this season. Fuel filter only about 1/4 full after mucho pumping of bulb. Took gas line off near the tank and blew down through it to tank in case of pluggage. Still no start.
Haven't changed plugs in a few years, but started fine in driveway and then 2 more times in lake. Any ideas appreciated.
BTW, I had put in a new water pump and had marked linkage threads. Shifts fine from For-Neu-Rev.
Thanks, John

If the bulb won't firm up, that is a problem.

Either the check valves in the bulb are bad, or it is pumping gas to the fuel pump, but gas is not making it out of the pump because of torn diaphragm, which will flood the engine by pouring gas directly into the crankcase.

Is the diaphragm replaceable or do you just get a new fuel pump? What about the carburetor needle valve, could it be involved in the problem? Also, I had disconnected the fuel line at the quick connect and the bulb still wouldn't firm up, shouldn't it have??
Thanks, John

The needle valve if it's not working, the carb will leak gas.
The ball should pump up quick if disconnected.
The diaphram is easy to check/replace.
Ethanol is messing with older hoses. If in doubt?? Throw it out.Buy new!!

Re: 1995 70HP Force, fuel delivery?

Hi, I replaced the bulb and fuel line with new from fuel pump to tank. Bulb still won't firm up even when I disconnect at the quick connect. Seems like something must be wrong in the tank. Can't seem to unscrew the connector going into the tank. Didn't want to break anything. Any thoughts? Thanks, John
Later I did get the connector off the top of the tank. Fuel tube looks perfect. The little filter screen near the tube bottom is clean. Gas level is about 3-4" above the tube bottom. Still will not pump up and firm the bulb. ??? Don't have a clue now, please help!!

I just bought a brand new fuel line from the gas tank to the fuel pump. The quick connect on the fuel line would not draw gas. Took it back and got another quick connect and it works fine. Either the quick connect didn't match the connect on the gas tank or it was just bad even though it was brand new. Simple fix, but it is worth trying out the cheap fix first.
