My engine ins a 4.3 lx Mercruiser with a alpha one out drive and has 440 hrs on the original motor.
I was out on the lake all day this past Friday and Saturday. On Friday I was running my boat and my temperature gauge stopped working. I have never had an issue with my motor and thought it wasn't a big deal and I would just fix it when I trailered the boat for the week. I then ran the boat all day on Saturday and the oil pressure stayed at 60 psi which is normal. I didn't have a single issue all day Saturday. The boat ran great with 6 people in the boat and it was a rough day on the water with slowing down and going some what often so it was ran moderately hard.
Today (Sunday) I went to take the boat from my slip to the marina to pull it out of the water. We had a decent rain that night and the wind was blowing right towards my boat so I got quite a bit of water in it but didn't realize it at first. When I first went and put the throttle down the boats RPMs came up normally and the oil pressure came up to 60psi like normal. HOWEVER, at the point when the boat usually planes out my oil pressure started to rise and went up to 80psi. The boat then stalled and wouldn't allow anymore power to plane out. I tried it two to three more times but to no avail. I opened the engine compartment and I could see there was a lot of water in it from the rain. I then ran my bilge and got all the water out of it and then tried to get on plane but it did the same thing. It dogged down and the pressure went to 80psi at the point it should have planed out.
I am confused how my boat ran completely fine and strong on Saturday yet the next day when I go to run it it can't plane out and I see a difference in the pressure (60psi to 80+psi). I had to idle it clear back to the marina to get it on the trailer. I checked my oil and saw no changes in it at all.
Any ideas as to what could cause this would be great, Thanks.
