The wife and I are looking at giving up our 93 Crownline 225CR for a 1995 Century 240 Midcabin cruiser. It has the 7.4 ltr Merc, bravo 3 outdrive, thunderbolt ing. After reviewing some history of the boat in the past couple of years its had a lot of work done. Replaced outdrive, bellows, carb work, water heater. And the engine. Not in the water. We ran it and everything seems to be good and in working order. Very clean in and out. Also it has bottom paint and has dulled quite a bit. All the electronics are in working order. Seems to be a pretty good buy. Asking $8500.
So this leads me to my question...any thoughts? concerns I should have? Anyone thats had one of these boats? I've never owned a century so any feedback is welcome.
thanks

My thoughts are:

to run it in the water a.k.a. sea trail.

A 24 foot cruiser is not a nimble boat as they are typically too short for their weight . . . a sea trial will tell you how it compares to the Crownline.

While it may have a bit more room than the Crownline, I don't know how much of an upgrade it is. What is your intended purpose of the boat, and why the need to upgrade?

A sea trial would be ideal, but I'm upstate NY and most boats now are being winterized for the winter. This time of year for us is really the best time to buy since prices come down and people don't want to store the boat. The boat would be used on a lake only. We really dont do much sking. Just some cruising, but mostly just hanging around the lake on the weekends. Our thoughts are mainly comfort and this would be a much more comfortable boat to be on. Easy on/off, easy to stay over on weekends than the cuddy. It has the some of the convinences of home. Fridge, microwave, stove top. A 24ft is really probably the largest boat I would really want for the lake. There are larger up there, I used to have a 25ft formula on there but that was really just to much boat at the time.

Re: 1995 Century 240

I owned the smaller version of your Century, and it was a heavy, well built boat. Never had any major issues other than the standard wear and tear items, mine was powered by a single screw v8 and it was a bit underpowered. Could have been prop issues on mine but again they are heavy boats, and I would really try to get it out on the water to sea test it. Especially with the amount of work you are describing on this one. Do you plan on towing or slip? That thing would need some serious tow rig power if that was your intent. I would buy another Century, mine was good to me and was a nice all-around weekend cuddy. Cant say we used it much pulling tubes or skiers because it just loved the gas dock, and yours will too with the big block. For $8500.00 I would not buy w/o a long ride on the lake. Have fun!

This would stay in a slip all summer long

Walked away from this deal today. The engine was replaced back in 2008. They got it running...only 10 psi oil pressure. And its knocking like hell. Engine is junk
