I've got a 1995 evinrude 70 (E70TLEOR) yesterday I blew a power head gasket and of course I've gotta replace it, can someone give me a idea on best way to get Powerhead off? Had a buddy tell me to drop the lower unit undo shift Rod and the power head should lift up with a little bit of wiggling. Also I read on some of the topics and I've seen where apparently there's an updated gasket for the power head due to it being common for blowing out. Any help would be appreciated

Get the manual for it. Only the shift linkage has to be disconnected as long as all the other bolts for the powerhead are out. Should pull straight up

Just order a factory powerhead gasket.----Original equipment gasket has been improved I believe.---------No need to remove the lower unit for this gasket work . A new impeller would be a good idea.so removal of the lower unit is needed for that.--------Shift rod connecter is undone by removing a hitch pin and pushing that shaft to the port side of the motor.

Alright i pulled the exhaust housing covers off and got the 6 bolts out, I checked to see if it loosened the power head and all I'm able to do is kind tilt it back the carb side will lift some but the other end doesn't move much more of a tilt, does the shift linkage need to come undone? I haven't dropped the lower unit yet. Any help is appreciated

Did you take the nut off of the stud on the back of the motor. Underneath CYL# 3 is the stud with the nut on it that needs to come off.

Why O Why are you removing the power head for a blown head gasket? See Racerone's reply.

"Powerhead gasket" is it normal for there to be a metal gasket? The one I'm puttin on it is a paper one should I go back to a metal gasket?

As stated before you must insist on a factory replacement gasket !

Some factory gaskets look like paper.----They can have metal mesh / sandwiched hidden from your eyes !!
