Was running good last week and all the sudden won't crank this weekend. I ain't hat it long and have had no problems with it until now. It will turn but not fire and gas or some kind of oil is coming out of my prop. It hat normal? I can hear a faint tuck when I chike it but am not shire if it's choking it or not. I ran a new fully charged battery down trying to start it. I have no idea what happened. Some freezing weather came throught but i don't know if that's what did it. Any ideas?

Re: 1995 force 120 not cranking

Welcome to iboats Andrew.

Unburned gas and exhaust residue leaking out the prop is normal.

There is no conventional choke on that motor.
There is a fuel enrichment valve, that releases fuel directly into the intake manifold.

Starting procedure:

Open fuel tank vent

Check the kill switch, place in "run" position

Squeeze fuel primer bulb till firm.

Advance the throttle 3/4 way, without putting it in gear. -- This is done by either pushing a button in the center of the controls, or pulling the shift handle toward the driver, or raising the fast idle lever, all depending on what control unit you have.

Turn the key to the on/run position.

Activate the choke (fuel enrichment valve) by pushing in on the key. The valve is only open while the key is being pushed in.

Turn the key to start while continuing to hold the key in.

Release the key and choke when it starts.

3-5 seconds of "choke", is usually enough.

Be ready to pull the throttle back toward the idle/neutral position, when the engine starts and the revs increase.

Continue to pull the throttle back as the engine warms up.

You should not have to use the choke much, if at all, once the engine has warmed up.

Engine should start within 10 seconds of turning the key.

Do a compression and spark test. Post your results.

I have done all of that. When I get the time to check spark and compression I'll post it. I don't have the tools here but I have a friend that may. Kill switch was on run new gas in it. It always fires right up but this time it won't do anything. Is there an ez way to check spark without the tools?

Pull the plugs and put the boots back on. Wrap bare wire around the threads of the plugs and ground the wire to the block. Look for crisp, blue spark.

Ok I check my plugs and there straight on the back. I grounded them but can't seem to get a spark. There's no gap for me to look at tho. I may try a plug I got laying around the house just to see if it will spark. But I don't think it's getting fire

Source of spark and it's components is my weak spot. Do you have a functioning kill switch? Yes? Is it plugged in?
