1995 Mariner 50 HP 4 Stroke water discharge alarm comes on at idle speed.

The water discharge alarma on our 1995 Mariner 50 HP 4 stroke motor comes on when using in a no wake area. Turning the motor on and back on again clears the problem for a couple of minutes in most cases. At anything above no-wake speed there does not seem to be a problem. Would this be indicative of a bad water pump or impeller? Thanks for your replies.

That's not a water discharge alarm. Probably Overheat alarm. Yes it can be impeller but it could be thermostat as well.
