Hello-

I have a 1995 150 HP Mercury Outboard that has 2 problems with the tilt/trim. The 1st problem is that the engine will fall down from its "Up" position over night. Someone told I need to replace the seals/gaskets? Is this True? Where can I get them, how much, how hard is the job?

The 2nd problem with my tilt is that it make a clicking noise when going up or down in the same location....how do I fix?

Thanks!

-Paul

You are correct about the trim cylinders needing rebuilt(if they are bleeding down). The clicking noise is interesting though. I think it is most likely the solenoid. Take your motor cover off and cycle the trim up and down. If the clicking is from the solenoid, it will be louder. Better yet, get someone to push the buttons and you get next to the motor. If it is the solenoid, check cables and make sure you have a good HOT battery. A low battery will drag solenoids, as well as cables with dirty connections.

I had a similar problem, motor dropping over night, replaced seals and end cap and any other seal possible, told the last posssible solution was an expensive problem with the trim motor so I gave up, no big problem seeing i constantly trim my boat though! With the clicking, it could be a solanoid problem but more likely air in the system. With a solanoid it either works or not... Bleed the system by: fill it, run tilt full up and down, check levels, repeat 3 times, see how you go...
