I have seen an ad for a 1995 Mercury 40hp 2-stroke 4 cylinder. I know Merc made a 50hp 2-stroke 4 cylinder back in 1977 because I bought a 1977 40hp 2-stroke but it was a 3 cylinder. Did Merc really make a 40hp 2-stroke 4 cylinder?

I have a 1996 4 cylinder 40HP ELPTO Mercury.
Bought it new in 1996. Keep it in a heated garage and
fog the cylinders and carbs every winter and in the spring
I change the lower unit grease.

Had the water pump impellor replaced once and
changed the plugs a couple of times.

Always idles like a dream. I have not had any major problems
with this motor in 13 years. (knock on wood)
