Purchased a 1995 Chris-Craft with a 5.0 OMC Cobra. Previous owner indicated it was "cold blooded" and took a while to warm up which has proven to be true. I have always been able to start it with a couple of pumps of the throttle and RPMs left high (3000+). After approximately 5 to 10 minutes I could move to neutral and engine seemed to run normally. While running at cruising speed, I would occasionally notice slight increases in the RPMs and better performance.
The first time I use the boat it functioned normally for approximately three hours of nonstop running. The next two outings resulted in problems after using the boat for a few hours including multiple restarts. Ultimately it would not turn over. It seemed as if the engine was hydro-locked, clicked as if the battery was dead well trying to start; however, eventually got it to turn over and restart. On one occasion I had to move the outdrive up-and-down to get it to turn over. The engine oil was not milky and I could only get one plug out to check the compression which read 135. I did not have the proper tools to get the other plugs out due to the risers.
After the second break down I took the boat out just to gather information. I stayed close to the boat launch LOL. After a lengthy warm-up and some ?squeaking belts? I ran the boat at various speeds and stopped/restarted it multiple times without incident.
The fifth time I used the boat it functioned normally until I returned to the boat launch. It stalled out when I put it in neutral but would ran fine as long as the RPMs were above 3000. To restart I had to place into neutral and pump the throttle even though it had been running for a few hours.
The next time I tried to use the boat I was never able to leave the boat launch. Boat started and ran fine at high rpm but stalled when I tried to put in neutral. Additionally, there was an intermittent high-pitched squeaking sound similar to squeaking belts. This is the same sound I had experienced on a previous outing.
I am not a mechanic but the problem does not seem to the electrical or carburation. In my opinion something seems to be making it difficult for the engine to rotate. When it is running I do not hear anything that sounds abnormal besides the "squeaking belt", there is no indication of metal grinding or rods knocking.
Does anyone know of something that could cause the engine to intermittently become difficult to rotate? This problem occurs while in neutral and drive.

I'm definitely not the pro here but your symptoms sound strangely familiar to what I experienced with the boat I recently bought several months ago. Pull all the plugs and check for any water in the cylinders. The boat I bought ran fine on the test ride but had a little trouble starting but then ran fine. After I got it home, it got progressively harder to start until it would no longer run at all. Ended up being a cracked block from PO overheating it...start with plug inspection.
