The Quicksilver commander remote control for my outboard failed today while out on the water. While I was trying to shift back into the neutral the whole shaft sheered off and left the handle dangling. Luckily I was moving slowly and was able to kill the engine. Inspecting the inside it looks like the metal may have had internal defects and developed a crack. The metal on the inside looked pitted and maybe corroded. Looking online there was several recalls for the model year for a improperly hardened gear in the remote control that would cause failure.

Anyone have any suggestions on a new remote control with trim/tilt controls? Trying to decide between these two. I don't really need a trailering option

I would like to avoid changing the cables.

Also anyone have any idea how i could shift my outboard back into neutral? Can I just slide the gear selector on the motor?

Do a google search, ive had a 92 and 95 commander, and onebif them had a recall from mercury depending on the serial number or date listed on the unit??

I bought a 2000 here on iboats several years ago. It and the electrical cable were $250. Surely they sell the 3000 also. Go to the very top of the page (in black background) and search in "Boat parts and accessories.
