Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster here. I moved to Michigan last summer from Melbourne, Australia, and having owned a couple of 20+ foot ski boats, decided to take the plunge on something bigger and explore the Great Lakes. First time owning a boat with any sort of electrical system , so apologies if these are basic/stupid questions. I'm fairly handy (Mechanical engineer in the auto industry).

Boat is based on Lake Eeerie - currently inside heated stored.

Just doing some winter maintenance on the above, few queries where hopefully your greater experience can guide me....

1. A/C hull water pickup - grill has been damaged on the pickup - see photo - is it mandatory to repair? If so, do I remove the internal seacock first or the outside pickup (I already took the screws out...) ? Any advice on sequence of operations would be handy.

2. Horn - not working. I can hear the compressor, but I cannot find it. Sounds like it is under the helm - but I have checked all the readily accessible areas with no sign. Any pointers? If I can't access, what are my options to replace? New horn on the arch?

3. Radar. I bought the boat on the understanding the 'green screen' Furuno was not working......but when I attached the shore power last week (1st time this winter), it fired up (1st time in my experience of owning for 8 months).....then I turned something elso on (arch & cockpit lights) and it went back off. Can't get it to come back on.....any ideas?

4. Radio is Standard Horizon Nova (gx2330?) Turns on fine but there is zero sound output. Was working fine in the summer - anything stupid I am missing?

Any he;lp gratefully received!!

Many thanks in advance,

Simon.

I would recommend replacing the pickup. Don't know if it was damaged by hitting something or by loading on a trailer incorrectly. Remove the hose and seacock, and ground wire, then remove the nut. After that it will take some doing to get the fitting out.

Clean are repair the hole, including screw holes. Fill screw holes with epoxy resin or marine-tex.

Here is a good write-up by Boat US

Just keep looking, you have an air horn and it probably is under the helm, but could also be in a cavity to the starboard side. Find the wires on the switch and trace them.

Don't really know, but my first thought may just be corrosion and bad connections, since it went off when more things were turned on. Start at the battery cables and clean them to shinny metal. Also do the ground side and the cable ends where they connect to the starter and engine block. Keep going and there should be buss bars for main connections. [/Quote]

Check squelch level, is on hailer or WX and not on channel. If it has an external speaker, has it gone bad or partially plugged in.
