when i run this motor at home on the hose it runs great. no rev limit sounds good idles great.

when i put the boat in the water i cant get over 2k in rpm's the rev limit kicks in. i have cleaned the entire fuelsystem, including injectors. i dont understand runs great in the drive way but i guess it is allergic to water. does anyone have any ideals on what is going on.

thanks
Tom

Lets assume your fuel system is perfect. I'm pretty sure your engine has overheat protection and low oil protection. Maybe they are causing your rev limit to kick in? Does your tach. throw off any codes or blinking lights?

Yeah, your motor is trying to save itself from you.....it is going into protection mode to keep from blowing/melting down....check the head temps when this happens....does this motor have oil injection? Are you running pre-mix?

All of suzuki's warning sensors are normally open, and most will have a pink wire. That year will have an oil flow sensor also. Unplug the sensors, one by one and see if you can find a sensor that makes the problem go away.If so diagnose from there.

i have a seperate regular tach not a suzuki tach. i have cleaned the fuel tank, replaced all fuel lines, new water seperator filter with plastic bottom so i can see what is in the filter. it has a new water pump that is 2 months old. and the oil injections seems to be working correctly, i also bled all the air from th eoil system as per the manual. the motor runs great when hooked to the hose in my drive way i can achive WOT with out the rev limiter kicking on. but when i put in the river even with a dead cold motor it will not get over 2k with out the limiter kicking in.

Are you SURE it's the rev limiter kicking in? Sounds more like gunked up carb doing this....only takes a few drops of gas to rev motor on hose....when put in water with backpressure and in gear under load takes much, much more.....seen this a LOT is why I ask, people just can't believe the difference in gas flow needed from hose to water....if carb is ok and is rev limiter at 2k, motor will INSTANTLY rev to 2k and you will detect a definite, repetitive, evenly spaced cut-out....carb will make motor a little sluggish in getting to 2K...maybe 2 seconds maybe less....and cut out will be slightly less perfect.
Almost sure carb is problem as this is a classic symptom and not the rev limiter at all.

The motor is fuel injected 6cyl 12 plugs. the rev limit light was coming on in the suzuki guage.

i tested my oil level switch, and it was bad. got a new one and all the lights on level guage are lit.

just have to run it to the water and try it out.
