Just bought a boat with a 1995 Suzuki 85DT outboard the day before yesterday. Found a manual on-line which will take about a week to arrive but I would like to take her out for a couple of shake-downs before then.

It fired up but I bought a new battery, dropped it in, and now not even a click. The accessories are receiving juice though.

I am not familiar with Suzuki so I am thinking that I may have a blown fuse but I have no idea where to find the fuse(s) or a fuse box, so I am hoping some kind sole and point me in the right direction.

Thanks much,

Mike

Re: 1995 Suzuki 85DT - Fuses

Disconnect the motor wires neg/pos from battery. On the side of the motor where the wires are coming out of you will need to remove the plastic cover. To do first remove the small screw that secures the idle knob. Remove the knob. Remove screws from cover, remove cover. After the cover has been removed I would suggest to take some pictures of the controls/wiring inside and how they come out of the case for future reference. Then carefully pull the cable/and wires away that are about the 5 o'clock position of the case. Behind these wires are two fuse holders that have bus fuses in them.
Note that if the engine is running and you happen to disconnect battery power for a second or two usually it may ruin the rectorfier in the control box. The recterfier is located below top center area, kinda a 2x2 inch finned block.
Have you checked the red kill switch? The cap may not be on tight on the switch. Also the nuetral switch within the sidemount control may not be making contact.
