Good Morning Everybody, Looking for a little help here. Saturday I had my boat out for a couple hour cruise, just putting around our lake. Cruised just up on plane for about 10 minutes. The engine ran like a Swiss watch like usual. Pulled the boat out as I was going to go to another lake. Sat for about about an hour and headed off to the other lake I was going to go to. Dropped the boat in the lake, went to start up and all I got was a click. Not a dead battery starter solonoid click, but a starter engage and it couldn't turn over the engine. Long story short, pulle out of the lake, went back to the cabin, put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt to see if I could turn over the engine. Nothing. Got home yesterday and pulled the spark plugs. Water poured out of cylinders 5 and 2, and the other cylinders were damp. With the plugs out I turned over the engine with the starter and water just shot out ouf 2 and 5 and misted out of the others. Anybody have any idea on this? How can the engine run perfectly, not skip a beat one hour, and the next be totally hydrolocked? I would doubt both manifolds rusted out at the same time. The boat runs in fresh water in Minnesota. Could the riser gaskets have failed at the same time? Would that cause this? Any help would be hugely appreciated. Incidentally, the engine has a Volvo closed cooling system on it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like the engine may have dieseled when you turned it off or a wave hit the stern of your boat when you were putting it on your trailer.

It wouldn't have been a wave, both landings were dead calm. I thought about the engine dieseling but usually you can hear that, kinda sounds like a whoosh or something. She shut down as normal as she always did.

Is it possible that all the stars and planets aligned and something in the exhaust burped allowing for an inrush of water? I'm totally baffeld here.

Incidentally and for what it's worth, the drive is a Volvo DP-C w/counter rotating props. So there are no flappers just off the exhaust dumps, the only flapper is the rubber one on the exhaust "port" on the anti ventilation plate, or cavitation plate what ever you want to call it.

In the event that my problem lies with the exhaust manifold(s) or riser(s), kinda seems that's the direction it's going, as much as I would like to I don't think I can afford real Volvo parts. Could anybody help me with an after market brand I should go with, or stay away from?

Thanks for your help
