Just wanted to post this to help anyone else that may have a similar problem.
Our Larson Cabrio 280 with a Volvo Penta 7.4 GL PHUS engine would die once in a while during riding around at idle. Pump carb, and it would start back up.
Changed the fuel pump, filter, pickup tube, fuel hose, and the fuel pump relay. Still did not fix the problem! Checked all wiring and the diodes, all good!
Here the problem was sometimes at idle the signal from the alternator that turns on the fuel pump relay would not give an output unless the rpms were increased. (The output comes from the green wire attached to the alternator labeled "light".)
Otherwise, the alternator seems to work good.
I installed LED's on all the signals to finally "see" what was going on.
Hope this helps!
