Hi I got a 1995 Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke motor on my boat. Motor looks good and runs nice, however I've noticed a few times when I was on the water that when I tried to turn the engine on it wouldn't start (after I've been driving for a good 15-30 mins) this has nothing to do with cold because its happened on a few hot days... The engine turns but won't start, will make a weird electric buzz sound... The only way it starts when this happens is if I by-pass the controls forward gear and put it in neutral with full throttle, and she'll start right up with high revs and I'll back it off and put in gear, although sometimes it will just cut off when it pops in gear this way... The funny thing is that it chooses when to have this problem.. Any idea as to where I can even begin diagnosing this as I'm sure it can be one of many things?

Thanks!

Nick

if you are able to get it started by opening the throttle to give it more air then it is flooding(too rich)
But have no idea what you are speaking of with the buzzing noise

Hi that makes sense because after it starts up I see a small amount of gas leaking in the lake... The buzzing noise I think is the starter, it makes a weird sound like its whining down.
