I have a 1996 115Hp Evinrude Ocean Pro 60deg Looper with OMS. When the motor is sitting in the tilted down position I get 2-stroke oil running down the front of the leg. I was initially told this was unburnt fuel oil mix dripping into the cowling and making its way down the leg however I have found it continues to leak even after I have totally cleaned up the area where its leaking. I have checked all hose fittings to and from OMS pump and there is no leak form this area. The oil seems to be dripping from under the lower carbies. I have checked the oil bottle filler cap and found that it does not release pressure only allows suction which is pressurizing the oil bottle on warmer days. Is this normal? The oil is not coming from the carbie throats so it must be coming from the body somewhere. The engine starts and runs fine so should I be worried or is there some known problem in this area. Thanks.

if its actually oil dripping from the pump you most definatly have a problem. the cap should vent both ways as well. oil dripping from a line or fitting could be an airleak someday that will leave you dependant on the alarm circuits, not good.

All hose fittings are checked out and there is no oil leaking from the pump. If I place my hand under the lower carbs I can feel them dripping oil(both sides). My suspicion is that due to the oil being under pressure in the oil bottle it is forcing the oil out somewhere. I have squeezed the primer bulb on the oil line and it is rock hard.

Sorry. I should also have added that I have cracked the cap open to allow the oil bottle to breath normally and whilst there is less oil leaking there is still a minor amount leaking out the cowling. Maybe it is just residual. My concern is that maybe this pressurizing has damaged a seal somewhere.

Are you sure its straight oil? If its oil and gas it could be from the carbs. There is a small "BB" on each carb that seals a passage. Those are famous for leaking and making a mess. I usually clean the area real good and seal it with 2 part epoxy.

I had another look last night and it could be oil and gas and it is definitely coming from the carbs. What is the 'BB'? It is leaking somewhere on carb body I just cant see where. Also I have tried to fix the vent cap on the oil bottle but it does not seem to come apart. Would I do and damage by poking a pin through the orifice?<br />Thanks for your help.

The "BB" covers a passage that was drilled or created from the outside and then plugged. It will ooze from around the "BB". Real tough to pinpoint a drip. We clean it real good with something like Electra Clean and then put on the epoxy. Its best to do it with empty carb bowls otherwise the epoxy wont stick.

I sprayed a bit of degreaser around the area but I am stuffed if I can see where it is leaking from. Using a dentist's mirror I have found oil dripping from 3 of the 4 carbies. I cant be sure but there is a spindle that runs transversley through the carby bowl which could be the source or there is a brass plug at the base of bowl that it could be coming from also. Perhaps I just have to put upo with a oily engine.

You are correct about the throttle shaft. They can leak too. I would still seal the "BB". They wont leak as much as they will ooze. The gas/oil slowly makes its way to the outside bottom of the bowl and eventually enough gathers to drip.

Just about narrowed it down to the throttle shaft. Where abouts is the BB located. You should also be aware the vent cap on the oil bottle is only a vacuum vent. It is not designed to release pressure.
