Thanks to all who have offered advice for my power loss issue recently. If you recall, my motor was losing a cylinder/power after about ten minutes of flawless running. This happened several times. The power would kick back on for a bit then I'd lose it again. Per the advice of this forum, I O/H'd the carb (it needed it) and replaced the coil (which was corroded and cracked on the base.
Today, I tried to take the boat out for a test spin and the same issues occurred. I took the cover off the motor and immediately wondered what all that water was doing in the bottom of the case. You guessed it, the hose from the water pump was not coming out the pee hole. It was wedged under the engine, flooding the case after several minutes of use. This, of course, shorted out whatever the water could reach. When the boat slowed due to the power loss, the water flow subsided, the case emptied out the hole and power would come back. Then the issue would occur all over.
I know...rookie mistake and I should have caught it first. On the bright side I learned a lot about the motor and bought the repair manual! Thanks to ALL who provided guidance. Much appreciated!
