The engine will lose power, not shut down, but just drop back to idle intermittently after about 10 minutes on plane. It can be powered back up and may or may not have the problem the rest of the day. My fishing partner, the boats owner, seems to think it helps to trim the engine up then back down to resolve the problem. This weekend on one day, the problem occurred about 10 times within a 20 minute period in the am and then only once all pm. On the second day, it did it only twice all day. There does not seem to be connection to a specific speed or rpm although it did happen almost at the same place down the river on both days. The am/pm connection may not be significant as in the past, the problem was just as bad in the hot pm as in the cold am. Other than this really annoyance intermittently, engine runs well.

Local mechanic has replaced computer, tested fuel pressure and replaced kill switch to no avail. Installation of a water separator has been thrown around by buddies. Any thoughts on the possible problem and solution?

The water seperator is a must have. I would tend to think the pick-up inside the fuel tank is getting plugged, sucking something over the intake hole and then releasing when the pressure is not present. Try switching to a 6 gal portable tank and see what happens.
Maybe even the primer bulb is acting up, it has a check valve in it.

hello
that motor should have a water seperator installed on the power head. the high pressure pumps on some also had a screen in the fuel pipe. I am not looking at your engine so I cannot remember specifics. why did someone replace the computer?
and the only way to test anything is while the motore is broke. you will need to have the fuel pressure gauge installed when it falls on its face to get an accurate diagnoses. has anyone thought to rebuild the old low tech diaphram fuel pump? should be done evey 3 years just cause. also on an engine that old all the vynil oil line should be inspected carefully. I dont think I would let anyone toss parts at this motor until someone shows you what is bad.
good luck and keep posting
