1996 Mercury 200 EFI,

During the summer I had a new water pressure guage installed because it seemed that the water pressure was very low at all times. The guage worked fine until my last fishing trip I noticed my pressure was stuck at 10 PSI. When I turn off the motor it stays at 10PSI and while I am running the guage kind of moves up a little, maybe to 12PSI. As far as I can see the hose is not kinked.

Thanks
Alex

I would disconnect the hose at the guage not the engine.... If the needle drops as rodbolt says, disconnect the tube at the engine and flush it with high pressure air (from the guage end to the engine end of tube.

Also remove the fitting at the engine and clean...
Do this if the guage is working!

Maybe you can blow compressed air through there and see if anything is blocking the hose. Try that air to blow out computer with in a can if you have no compressor

I disconnected the tubing from the back of the guage and a realy thick brown liquid is oozing out. The brown liquid seems to be in the tubing and in the gauge. Is there any way to get the goop out of the gauge? I took the gauge apart and have beed trying to q-tip it with water. THe guage moves when I blow air in it but, currently the gauge is still on 10psi.

Thanks
Alex

I bet you will have to get a new guage... Is there a fitting on the back of the guage (that the hose connects to) that is removable? If so, you might be able to take it off and clean it as well as some of the inside of the guage where that gooo is....

Good luck, A new guage is only about $15 BTW...
If you are getting water to the guage, it might help to loop excess tubing near the guage so the water will not flow back freely into it. If you have a good seal at the guage this will help.

Thanks for the help.

I am heading for Toledo Bend tomorrow, so I will probably stop and pickup a new guage on the way out.

Now that I have looked at it good, I believe the goo is mud. I had a real good seal at the back of the guage, so I can't figure out how the mudd flowed into the tube.

Thanks
Alex

The easiest explanation is that the guage went bad causing water to get back into it... If you can loop the tubing when you install the new guage that will help prevent another problem like you've seen with this one.
