Helping a friend rebuild a 1996 200hp Ocean Pro. All buttoned up and cranks but no start. Good secondary compression but no fuel at the plugs. I'm thinking loss of primary compression? If you put your hand against the carb and turn it over there is a lot of back pressure and then it spits fuel out the carb..... Pulled reeds out and found three reeds out of spec.... but would that cause a no start?

Probably not the cause. Even if 3 reeds had a broken leaf that motor would probably run, but badly, on the other 3 cylinders.

Did you bore the block and install new pistons?

The power head is rebuilt from some company in FL. the guy bought it as a long block. He got rid of the VRO and drilled the main jet out .002"

Yeah, when he said that I was kinda suprised. I've heard of people doing that because the factory tolerance was so close, the theory goes that it did not allow a good oil/fuel mixture. But either way i don't think drilling the jet .002" over would cause a no start with no fuel reaching the head.

But it can cause to to do all over again what you just finished doing, replacing the powerhead.

What else was done to change something? Or what wasn't done? Were the carbs disassembled, soaked and rebuilt?
