Could someone suggest a starting point in adjusting the idle air screws. Also can someone explain in a nutshell what the recirculation valve does.? thanks.

Re: 1996 225 carb. adj.

Dave, on my 95 175 hp, I started at 1 1/2 turns out from gently seated and ended up at 2 1/4 turns.Recircs scavenge fuel and oil from the lower end of the block. The valves are check valves to prevent the fuel and oil from entering the block when negative pressure (vacuum) is created during the compression stroke (fuel and oil should be drawn in from the intake manifold).

Re: 1996 225 carb. adj.

I must have a vacume leak somewhere because even with spotless clean carbs. my 225 wont idle unless the primer is cycled on and off while running. I have the screws out 5 turns and still not enough gas. I picked up 6 carb-manifold gaskits today hoping that might help. I usually reuse o-ring type gaskits but maybe not this time. I assume the recirc. check valves are on the block side of the circuit? thanks for your help. dave.

Tank vent, anti siphon valve, water separator, fuel bulb, hose connections all a possible source of fuel restriction. Does it work well above idle?

By vacume leak I was refering to intake/carb crank seal, type leaks.(primary compression) I have plenty of fuel in the carbs, just not enough being pulled into the engine to run properly. BTW I was trying to test it on the hose in 40 degree temps. Anybodys guess on lean idle circuit even after carb cleaning???
