Clean the whole fuel system in the engine and add some winns dryfuel or equivalent. You're almost guaranteed after 3 years of sitting there's water in there somewhere.Prime the engine with fresh premix in the fuel lines(even if you've got VRO-that way if it's gummed up you won't trash it)).Add a can of redex or seafoam to the tank.
DONT use easystart or any other ether based spray-it'll fry your engine.

Carb or fuel injection? Clean the carbs out if you have them-fully.Remove them if you have them and blow carb cleaner through all the holes-then let it evaporate before reassembling.Try running it on an external tank if you have one.

Sounds like the gas in your tank is contaminated with something. Does it smell funny?

If running on an external tank doesnt work then there's another problem. Is your fuel pump working? Is the bulb hard when it does run?

Three years? Yikes! Old gas is a pain in the ***. My buddy gave me a motorcycle he didn't want. It had sat in another friends garage for three years, untouched. It took no less than five times with the carb off, apart, back together, back on, to get that dog running again. I was just amazed at the "varnish" and gum created by old gas breaking down. In fact the "new" theroy is not to store your boat over the off season with a full tank of gas! The amount of moisture potentially forming is insignificant related to how the new fuels can rapidly deteriorate because of all the additives. Another thing to keep in mind is that with a brand new carburation system, new gas in old tanks can act as a solvent and you will carry contaminants from the old tank right into your pristine carb system. Now how did I figure that out? The hard way with that motorcycle. I don't want to be a downer here, but most people I talked with said I was nuts to rebuild the old carb. Just get a rebulit or new. That's how tough it can be to be certain to clear all the lines, and orifices, and minute places that even a tiny particle or gum will foul. You really need to start from one end of the flow to the other and absolutely everything has to be PERFECT. Good luck!
