I just bought this boat motor . The man I purchased it from said it had an intermitent miss. When I brought it home I put in Fresh gas, drained the carbs, cleaned the fuel filter and put in new plugs. It goes into a miss on the top cyl at idle or speed. It will be running and it pops or coughs and then will run rough. It starts easily. Today I took the carbs off and cleaned them. They did not look bad, the top carb had been apart before. It still ran the same. It seems to have strong spark, I tested it running with a spark tester in line with the plug. I switched the coils but it is still the top cyl that is missing. If you pull off the coil wire to the bottom cyl the engine dies, If you pull off the top wire it will continue to run. I do not have a manual for it. Could it be the CDI box? will check the commpression with a guage tommorow, I gave it a rough test and checked it with my thumb and both cyls will blow off your thumb.
