I was returning home and my engine overheated. Smelled heat, looked at temp gauge and it was over 220. Pulled back the throttle to shut it off and it stalled. Waited for it to cool after clearing drive unit of all weeds and it would not turn over. Luckily got towed home. Have it out of the water. Battery checks OK. Oil appears to be clean. Still will only turn over very slowly. Any ideas?

NYB, this doesn't sound good. Overheating will destroy an engine especially in a boat where the engine is under a conatant load. It doesn't take very long to overheat if your waterpump can't pump water to the engine. Just a few minuets without water is all it takes.

Only a tear down will reveal on how much damage has been done. Your piston rings will loose thier tensil strength when over heated. So if you would somehow get it running, your chances of blowby will be great, power loss, and smoking out the exhaust. Good luck. I'm sure others will post their opinions as well.

I corrected the starter problem. It now turns over great. Broken bracket and cover had separated slightly. Now I have no spark and I don't smell any fuel. Kill switch in run position. Any ideas?

No idea, but check manifold boots for melting.
