well i just brought home my new toy a 1987 14' bayliner capri with a 96 50hp force my question is when the guy started the motor in his driveway with ears and a garden hose there was a fine spray/mist comming out of the motor (where my yamaha has a steady stream of water) is this normal for this motor or could it be the ears garden hose combo? do you think when in the water it should improve to a steady stream?
thanx
warren

Re: 1996 50 hp force

The spray is normal. I beleive you are describing the two holes on the upper leg just underneath the cowling.

I have an earlier (1992) 50 hp. that the stream is adjacent to one of the bolts that hold the lower unit on, which would normally be underwater. And I have same spray out of these holes.

I have heard these holes described as the exhaust relief holes. I don't know what that means, but I believe that is what they are called.

my 50 is the same, on mine there is a plug on the top of the head; i removed this and placed a 90? with a house going out of the cowling to act as a "pisser" for a steady stream for visual reference
