I have a 1996 50 hp ELPT Force model number H050412SD with a shattered pinion and forward gear. I have located a used 1996 40 hp complete lower. From my searching it seems these motors are essentially the same. I compared the drive shaft part number on the Mercury parts catalog for all the 1996 40s to the part number for mine. They are all the same. Does this mean it will fit since the drive shaft is the same? was there a long and short shaft model for this engine/year? Thanks in advance!
