So i recently purchased a 96 5 hp Gamefisher of craigslist for a rock bottom price of 50 bucks:eek:, I know, crazy huh. The guy I bought it from did not look like he knew a lot about outboards, neither do I, lol. He tried to fire it up on land without ear muffs on it. I stopped him and said I'll take it off his hand for what he was asking for it. When I got home, I chem dipped the carb. cleaned the intake out, blew the lines out, found out the diaphragm on the fuel pump was ripped so I got a new one for it. So now its up and running. lol Awesome 50 dollar outboard:D. Cant complain. It will run all day on a stand, gas and water, but when I throw it on my boat and launch, it has problems starting, it will run for about 10 seconds then die, and take for ever to start back up. Some said it could be a vacuum leak, i put new gaskets from carb gasket to intake gasket and checked crankcase gasket, but it looks fine. I cannot find anything else. Any suggestions on what step I should take?

Usually if it if it refuses to run in the water it indicate it is running lean.

awsome deal, I'm sure you will get the bugs worked out. Now those little outboard should just start following you home now that they know you will fix them...LOL

Im back, after finding time to work on it, so now you guys think it's running lean. I took the fuel tank, emptied it, degreased it, pressurized it and air dried it out. Running fresh fuel with 50:1 mix and marine fuel stabilizer. How to i adjust it from running lean?

Is it a carb problem?
