This is my first post: Last year I broke my throttle cable and replaced it myself while on vacation. Since then I can not get up to the required 5000 rpm's while boating. maybe 3000 or so, and it feels like I have another gear but while getting my idle speed where it should be 800 rpm's or so I still can not obtain optimal power through making adjustments. Am I missing an important piece of the puzzle or should I just break down and allow a motor tech to make it right with all the information that I have given so far? Thanks for any replys.

With the throttle control handle in the full throttle position, look in the carbs and make sure all the throttle plates are all the way open. If not, you need to adjust the linkage or cable, since that was the only thing you changed. Keep it simple...

Here's a possibility. Most remote controls have two different places to anchor the throttle cable end inside the control. Merc uses a 6" throw for shifting and throttle. Johnnyrude uses a 5" throw. If you anchored the cable end in the Johnnyrude position, then you won't get enough travel to get full throttle. You'd want the outermost position.

Thanks for the help, since it's getting down to 18 below 0 tonight I have to look at the possible solutions at a further date.
