I bought this boat last week and I was tuning it up when I notice the white wire on back the motor was disconnected from somewhere. Can someone look at their motor and tell me where it goes?

Also there is a solid light brown and a dark brown with a white stripe on the side of the motor. One is a male end and the other a female end. I don?t want to plug them into each other for fear I?ll short something out. Can you help? I know sometimes there are extra wires for factory options and maybe they not functional.

Also when I use the trim buttons on the boats transom I get a shock? Any ideas???

Thanks

Gonzo

Re: 1996 70HP Force Help

I have a 98 75 hp. While trying to get running and install new plugs saw the same wires disconnected so you are not alone. Bought a Clymer manual and will be reading up on it this weekend.

Thanks, please let me know what you find out. Mine runs great, but It's odd the white wire would lead to nowhere. Thanks in advance if you can help me out.

The white wire coming out of the head is the overheat indicator. It appears that someone cut it.

FYI, the last year they made the 70 hp motor was 1995.

From the graphics on the cowl and the ignition system, yours looks to be a '93--'95.

Re: 1996 70HP Force Help

I have a 1988 75 hp Force and have a couple of spare wires(same as picture #3). As I understand it they are spare wires for a remote trim switch or a trim gauge. On my boat the light colored wire goes up to the forward control but doesn?t connect to anything. When I first purchased the boat I asked the mechanic about them and he said ?That?s normal don?t connect them together just leave them as they are?.

Hi Roscoe,

it may be a 95. The boat title said 1996, so I waould assume its in that era. The guy I bought it from said its all original.

Thanks

How can I know for sure what year it is?

Re: 1996 70HP Force Help

Post the serial number and I will look it up for you, can't seem to find the book right now.

Serial number is located on the side of the transom mount bracket near the tilt n trim.

serial numbers OE000001 thru OE093699 covered the years 1991 thru 1994

OE093700 thru OE138599 is a 1995 model year.

For parts purposes, 1993-1995 were almost identical.

Post the number and I will look for my book.
