1996 75 force cut off/ wont start

motor ran fine then cut off. diagnosis tells me its probably the stator. can any body give me ohm specs for testing the stator. thanks

500 - 700 ohms. Also check the flywheel magnets. Sometimes they break loose and fall out of place. Out of place or missing magnets will not generate a strong enough magnetic field for the stator coils to produce enough AC voltage for the ignition system.

just got flywheel off and found four wires. two yellows that go to the regulator and a white w/ green stripe wire going to upper coil and a green w/ white stripe wire going to both middle and lower coils. ohm test between green and white wires is 167.0 ohm resistance. are these the right wires for the 5 to 700 test ?

Yep those are the right wires to check. Doesn't look like you're seeing the right resistance. Looks like some of the windings in the stator have shorted together. Stator is bad. What color is the stator? The black stators have a higher failure rate than the red ones.

sorry it took so long to get back. its a black unit. thanks for the info. this is the first time ive used this sight. its great.
