I bought this boat used and I noticed yesterday that my motor is 2 screws holes above the the transom. Is this normal or should the motor be lowered down on the the transom? My exhaust plate is above the water so I smell exhaust bad when I am idling. I am not sure if that is what it is suppose to do or is it suppose to be in the water?

It is not uncommon for the motor to be raised. That is typically where you'll find the best performance. I don't think mounting position will affect your exhaust small much.

Do you think this being raised up higher could be causing my trim/tilt gauge to be off. It works just does not report accurate.

The tilt gauge on an outboard is not affected by engine mount height. It shows the engine angle relative to the transom mount bracket.

Hum any idea why it would only show 1/2 of the tilt and trim? Could the sensor be on backwards or upside down?

The sensors do go bad. Could have a dead spot in it.

The anti-ventilation plate should be even with or a little above the keel. It's vital that the water intakes remain submerged when running on plane. Post a picture or two showing the relationship of the motor to the bottom of the hull.
