Thinking of purchasing this boat. great shape for year and 590 hours on 7.4 l engine with a alfa 3 out-drive. The floor were skis are stored is soft easy fix, the lower transom is my concern. I have the means to repair but reading over threads in this form has given my confidence I can do this repair.

My problem is this what do I pay for boat?? They "marina who is selling it for a ""motivated"" customer" has an asking price of $6,000. including trailer.

Because of the repair do I go in at $4000 and see were it goes from there or is my # to low??

thanks to all who reply and if i buy boat we will be conversing a lot throughout this repair.

P.S. Tried to load pictures of bout and area bit file to big and I am told old to figure out how to shrink a file lmao.

Your described repairs, if you hired them done, would cost approx. $4-6 K. and you would have no Guarantees. If you do the work it will be significantly less but your time is worth a lot. That's way to much money for a 17 yr old boat with KNOWN issues. $2,500 maybe. I bet if you keep looking you'd find a better deal. JMHO

I agree with WOG on this one I would say in good condition that boat is worth 6k with the repairs I would offer them 2k at most. Have a third party inspector look over the boat and give you his assessment. Ask for a value and cost of repair and got from there. If the boat is this kind of disrepair what shape is the trailer in?

I may have miss heard him but the lower unit has twin props, one rotates clockwise the other counter clockwise.

I retract my previous statement looks well taken care of probably manufacturer defects in the setup as usual with boats. Either way that transom is going to be a pita to replace. If you were going to do it yourself I would think your 4k offer is a good one. Just check under all the seats all the hatches every nook and crank first take a small hammer with you and listen for thuds or hollows. Tap on everything.

the power plant is a Mercruiser Bravo III, parted out is worth about $2500.

There are some issues with the transom, it has soft spots and floor is spongy.

As you pull out the floor you will find the stringers are gone too. You are looking at 2 years of rebuilding the boat on the weekends before she is water ready! the 4k estimate will be bought right for materials so you will have around 8k in a 6k boat with two years of your labor, my vote is to keep looking

how old are your boys are they willing to donate their time to learn a life skill? will their football and baseball practices kill your boat working time? just more to chew on..

Please look at my Sea Ray thread. That is what you are looking at. That is an awesome boat, and I would love to restore that one. Lots and Lots of work though.
