Hey all,
I've had the boat out 2 times this summer and had some starting issues. The first time I took it out, it started right up and after stopping and killing the motor, it wouldn't start. I was able to finally get it started by repeatedly turning the ignition to the start position. The rest of the day, not a single problem. Then yesterday, I took her out and ran all over the lake, starting and stopping the motor with no problems. Then, I shut her off and she would not start after that. The ignition switch would power the dash in the on position, but nothing in the start position. It's a 3 position switch. I checked all the connections and nothing is loose. Got a tow back to the ramp and brought her home. I thought it may be the switch, so I pulled the it which has 3 posts on it labeled B (Battery), I (Ignition) and S (Start). I shorted from B to S and the dash lights up and I can hear the fuel pump. However, when I short the B and S, all I heard was a faint click. The kill switch was installed, and pulling kills the dash (B to I), so I don't think it is the kill switch. The neutral kill switch was by-passed by the previous owner (I know, not good and will replace it when I figure this out). I have OHM tested the switch and it seems to be making the connection. However, I did not check B to I and S at the same time. Unfortunately, the boat is old and it seems that some of the original wiring has been modified. Battery is fairly new, but I did not verify that it is fully charged. But, I did not run anything while the motor was off, radio, etc. So, where do I go next? It's fuel injected, not sure if that makes a difference.
Frustrated,
-Jim
