Hello friends,

I recently installed a 1996 Evinrude 150 FICHT outboard onto my boat. I rigged everything up per the book. I connected the hoses to the oil injection system and tried to follow the procedure in the book for bleeding and testing the system. I ASSUMED that the larger pipe on the engine was for the intake of oil, and the smaller pipe was for the return (PLEASE correct me if this is wrong) I could not find a diagram that talked about this. I tried to follow the procedure in the book, but when I pump the bulb it gets very firm but no oil is coming back to the oil tank. The book makes it sound like it's almost an open loop system and oil should be returned when the bulb is pumped. The motor runs, but I am afraid to run it for long since I am not sure it is getting oil. The return hose is dry. Please help, I may be following the wrong procedure.

Thank you!

I think you have your oil lines backwards. Try reversing them and see what happens.

Hmm, you must have a Prototype as Ficht wasn't introduced until the 1997 model year. There some differences year to year with the Fichts, in fact depending on what upgrades were done to the engine it can be a real rats nest.

Boobie, the metal pipes on the engine are different sizes. Is the bigger one for oil intake or return?

Jimmbo, I went off the plate on the engine with the serial number. Says 1996

The smaller one is the oil intake (1/4 " line). It has the primer bulb in it.

Ok, then I have it hooked up backwards. I'll reverse them and then try the procedure in the book again. Thank you.
