Hey guys, my brother has a 1996 evinrude 2 cylinder 50hp. We are trying to get it running (new to him) and have no spark on either cylinder. I have cut the black/yellow wire at the power pack plug to isolate the kill switch circuit, no spark. I disconnected both rectifier yellow wires at the terminal block and still no spark. I tested the stator plug ohms and the results are as follows. Brown to brown yellow 773, orange to orange black 396, white to blue 28, white to green 28. At this point I believe the powerpack is bad. Is there any other test I can do to diagnose this and does it seem like a powerpack failure? Thanks.

A guess without testing would be a pack. Go to cdielectronics.com for trouble shooting procedures.

That's exactly as I have done, I do not have a peak meter to verify the pack is bad though.

Without the peak meter it's just a guessing game. The proper way to check these systems is using output tests.

I'm guessing I will attempt to find a known good used pack and if that gives me spark then buy a new replacement. Thanks for the info, josh

Maybe so, it should be a easy check. Getting access to it physically in the cowling will be the hardest part. It's not in a easy place to get to.

Can't you just unplug the old one and plug the test one in using some jumper wires for grounds ??

Yea, that's how I will attempt it. The coil leads are rather long so the ground is all that will require the jumper.
