Hi there,

I'm contemplating on purchasing a boat with a 150HP engine. The engine has been checked out and seems to be in working order. Does anyone have any experiences good or bad or about this engine during this model year? I'm not a mechanic, but are is there anything that I should checkout before I close. The engine has good compression but without stipping the engine apart to see the wear on it is there anything else I could do?

Thanks

Re: 1996 Evinrude Intruder 150HP

Hi Cdnboater

Welcome aboard.

Evinrudes built in 1996 are generally very sound motors, so long as they've been looked after and had their regular servicing.

A sea trial is very highly recommended before buying a boat. Be sure to try running it at WOT (wide open throttle) and make sure that the revs get up to around 5000 RPM - not too much more nor too much less. That will indicate that the propellor and engine setup is correct. You can only really tell how well a motor runs out on the water.
