Hi all so I recently purchased a Carolina Skiff J16(1996) model with the original motor and when I bought it everything ran great on it, yesterday, my trim stopped working in one direction. I figured it was the relay, so I purchased two new ones and put them in, still have the same issue, trim will go down but not up, I pulled the relays, swapped them and not the trim will go up and not down. I tried cleaning all the grounds for the wiring, and still have the issue. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Probably the trim motor, have someone push the button for you while you tap on the motor with the end of a screw driver or hammer, now I'm not saying to beat the fire out of it just gently hit it some and see if it will start working.

Sounds like you may have a bad connection in the wiring. Check the wires in the sockets that the relays plug into. Also check the trim switch itself. A little squirt of CRC or WD-40 might help clean off any corrosion that may be on the contacts inside the switch.

This tells me one of the relays is still faulty. Sure it is a brand new one but that doesn't mean it cannot be faulty. So the next step is to try one of the two relays which I believe at least one is still working. Remember with the wiring, the blue is up and the green is down. It if now goes up, that means the relay with the green wiring needs to be replaced. To make sure it is the green, pull it out and test on the up direction and the trim should go up. If it does, now replace the other relay with one of the old relays until it works properly. If none of the two will work, then it means something is lose in either of the relay sockets.

You could also bypass your relays and hook the wires from the trim motor directly to your battery. One way you hook up the wires wires should take the motor up or down, reverse the wires and it should take it the other way, if this works then your motor is good.
