The engine had been smoking a lot latly and I decided to De-carb and put new plugs in. Got out to the lake and I had a noticable skip couldn't get the engine up to full rpm. After a while I could get the rpms up but it would still skip intermittantly. Help. Should I rebuild carbs the were just rebuilt a year ago and I havn't had a problem untill I de-carbed this time.

Decarb will do funky things to the plugs. If the plugs have more than 60hours on them and you decarbed with them in there, change them.
Hopefully, this is your problem. It IS the nmost probable cause.
If new plugs don't seem to help, come back with compression numbers, and we will take it from there. Good luck with the plugs, needless to say.

It has nothing to do with the carbs its a fuel starvation problem. Been having the same symptoms 96 75forcebymerc.

How did I miss that? Oh well, time for a compression check. The fact that it happened directly after you decarbed kinda made me "jump the gun", because it is the ONLY thing that is affected by additives, other than compression changes. Usually, the compression numbers will INCREASE, rather than decrease, but I have read about it going the other way...Never seen it tho.
A snmoking 2 cycle engine means too much fuel/oil, or too much oil in the mix...in other werdz, you are iether running too rich, or your fuel is wacky due to age, evaporation, condesation or too much added oil. I sugest you clean the tanks, if they are remote tanks. If they are built-in, I'd drain and clean them as best as I could, without getting the coast gaurd involed :) Then try some fresh (er) fuel and see how she performs. If she was smoking, it's definately NOT fuel starvation.

Lots of smoke and a skip at full power can be a dead cylinder. Often the CDs quit working on a cylinder. Your carbs should still be good. If it is there is a free fix for the Force 85.

trollhole, the fuel pump diaphragm may be leaking fuel into the engine.
