1996 Force - starter problems?

I have a 1996 Force 125 - replaced the starter a couple of years ago. It has been running great until this afternoon. It started up just fine (in fact it ran smoothly all day) - I got out into our cove to pull a skier and it would not start. When I turned it over, the starter was spinning but would move up to engage the flywheel. This was similar to the problem I had before when I replace the starter. Any help would be appreciated - I'm not much of a mechanic but have learned a lot with this outboard - have manual. Thanks for any advice.

It needs some lube sprayed on the bendix drive on the top of the starter WD40 will do but you need a light oil that will stay wet.If you look at the shaft of the gear you will notice a spiral groove that lifts the gear.spray there.
