Mechanic says that my electric fuel pump has gone out and through Mercuiser a new one will cost me over $600! Does anyone know of a cheaper way?

so I don't have a 1996, but do you know what the fuel needs are for the EFI?

Holly sells one that supports mine, I got it for 190, and it is USCG approved.

Why don't you start with posting your serial number.. And then tell us more about the issue your having. Alot of 502's have nothing more than mechanical pumps. But some of them have cool fuel as well, and there are a few variations of that.
Is he quoting you 600 for just a pump or for an entire job?

502's are a rich mans block... there's not much thats going to be "cheap" to repair on those.

The number on the replacement pump is 808505T01. I understand that parts can be expensive but have never seen a fuel pump like this that cost that kind of money. My thoughts were that, since it is a mercruiser part maybe the same pump is used in different applications and could be found cheaper.

Well, thats a pump kit used in gen 6's inside the vst. No, the pump isn't used in any other application except for inside the vst. And yep... retail on that pump kit is a tick over 600 bucks.
The Ooooonly way you may find it cheaper is you can try calling mercury and asking them who the oem is for the pump, because your not a dealer they may or may not give you that info. If they do you can try to buy from the oem directly... but don't expect a mechanic to install it for you.

The only other thing you can try, is to remove your pump and soak it for a few days in a mixture of fuel and stabil.... sometimes that will get them to come back to life.
