I just purchased a 1997 Sunbird Neptune, Center console. It has a 1996 Johnson 115 hp on it. I do not have a manual and was wondering what the oil / fuel mixture ratio is for this motor.

That motor should be oil injected! Look for a small white tank w/black top, Keep it full with 2cycle Oil designed for oil injection, TCW-3 approved ;)

I looked everywhere and don't see one. I remember the fella I bought it from told me he didn't like automatic oil injectors. So I bet he took it out. A friend told me it should be around 50:1, but the previous owner used a 100:1 ratio.

Any ideas ...

familyofphillips,First thing you will want to do is to verify whether the VRO oiling system has been disconnected. The absence of the oil tank may indicate that it is but without hearing of the disconnect or being able to see the engine I can't be sure.See if you can verify this with the previous owner. If for some reason you are unable to contact him ,post back and someone will help you verify.I could give you some things to check but don't want to confuse. If you verify that it is in fact disconnected the fuel oil mix is 50:1.Any less will starve your engine of lubrication.

Family Of Phillips..... I'm in full agreement with OB's reply. If the VRO has been disconnected, the fuel/oil ratio is 50/1 (1pt of 50/1 oil to 6gal gas). 87 octane will be just fine.

On the port side of the engine, towards the front, see if there is a rather large black object there with fuel lines attached to it.

If so, that object would be the VRO pump. The bottom "Small" line at one extreme end of that pump would be the oil intake line. Trace that line back to see if it has been disconnected and plugged. If so, the VRO (Variable Oil Ratio) setup has been disconnected and you will be required to mix oil with your fuel. The VRO pump would be acting now strictly as a fuel pump.

From what you've said.... you can't find the oil tank.... I'd assume the VRO has been disconnected but check to be sure.
