1996 Johnson 115 timing procedure

Hey there everyone. I need some help with checking/setting the timing on my motor. It’s a 1996 Johnson 115. Can someone tell me the procedure on how to do that? It seemed to be running ok when hooked up on the muffs but when I put the boat on the water it would bog out and die when I put it in gear to go forward. Compression is good on all cylinders and brand new spark plugs. I also cleaned the carbs. Thanks for any help.

There are 2 different 115 HP models in 1996.----Your model #.------And what are those compression numbers ?-----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more on each lead ?

The model is J115TLEDA and my compression was 120,110,120,110.
