I am replacing the impeller on a 96 Johnson 130 (model J130TXADA). I believe I am ready to go on this, but a bit sure on how to get started. I've read that in order to allow the lower unit to come off the rest of the motor, the shifter needs to be disconnected near the carbs first.

Can someone describe that process? Are there any good videos on the web that I can look at for this?

Check this out...might have what you are looking for: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=309188

On my engine 1992 120 V4 I had to disconnect the shift rod from the shift lever link and shift arm. See #68 & #79 in picture. It was under the entire engine where the shift rod enters the lower engine cover. Pain in the a to get a screwdriver in there. I memory serves me I think you need to be in reverse..check manual to verify.

I would think your motor would have the clevis pin on the left front of the block. This will release the shift rod. I would recommend a service manual, as there are some non-obvious steps to the job. You will also need marine grease, and substitutes or the genuine OMC sealents and such. I use permetex aviation gasket maker and Permetex #2
