I have a 1996 Johnson Faststrike 150. My problem seems to be a flooding problem. When I first put the boat in the water (or on the hose in the yard)it fires up fine. When I try to go it dies and refuses to start. Occasionally it will crank up again, I can plane out (sometimes) then BLAAA it dies regardless of rpm. The plugs are dripping with fuel. Oh, and sometimes I wait an hour or so and it cranks up and runs great all day! There is a lot of smoke as well. I have new plugs, wires and coils. Can the VRO Fuel Pump be pushing too much fuel? Powerpack maybe? Any help anyone can give would be tremendously appreciated.

B'Bob, Loose the starting fluid. It has NO lubricant in it and washes what lube there is on the cylinder walls off. Shoot it up with premix, 50:1.
I don't like the part where you smelled rubber burning and I'm sure you didn't like it either. I'd start with the impellor and then try to figure out why it won't start. Pull the plugs and give each cylinder a squirt or two of oil and then check compression. Ya may have stuck rings or worse. I'd get a service manual before I went to far.

c/6

Hooty

I would check the power pack. I dont know what kind of sparkplugs wires you are using, but this ignition system is sensitive to type of spark plug and spark plug wire.
