1996 Johnson 200hp Starting/Running Problems

I have a 1996 johnson 200hp and am having a low rpm problem. Some history: I had a carb rebuild & sync late last year and have not used the boat over 1-2 hrs since the rebuild. It ran great at the time though. This year it has developed a problem out of the gate where it is a bit hard to start (cold) & won't idle below 900 rpm for any consistent length of time. Sometime it will start right back up but most times it won't. However, periodically it will nicely idle for a short length of time (1-3 minutes). Last year there were new plugs properly gapped and the powerpack was also replaced.

You probably need the carbs rebuilt again, especially if you have not stabilzed your fuel.

Thanks, I did stabilize the fuel. However, I am going to try to bypass with some fresh fuel to see if there is any difference. The spark is ok but I have not checked the compression. Will do so.

always check your fuel, use a glass contanier. I have a generator that ran fine last time i used it 1 year ago. needed it the opther day wouldn't start. checked gas had water in it. don't know how I keep it inside. so inspect you fuel any time it sit for 4 months or more.

you can check spark and compression just to eliminate them..but your idle passages need cleaning

I have a 1996 Johnson 200 hp. I am having electrical and fuel problems. After having carbs rebuilt and replacing, plugs, wires, coils, starter solenoid, ignition switch, new batteries, battery switch, all cables, motor will start and run at dock when you take it out and power up it bogs down and seems like its starved for fuel, come back to dock, runs for a minute then shuts down and will not crank, wait for several hours and same thing? Also has new fuel filter. Found the neutral switch was corroded, cleaned it and wire connection?
