I have a 1996 Johnson 90hp. took it to the lake yeasterday day and everything was going great and then I went to look at this camp site and pulled back on the thottle and turned the boat off. I then started it back up and the throttle would not go past half way down unless you put all you weight on the throttle lever. It has a new throtle cable that is 2 months old. any suggetions<br /> :)

There are a couple of 90 hp's in 96 but no matter which one you have start by disconnecting the cable from the motor. One or the other should now move freely. That way you know whether to look at the cable/control or the linkage on the motor.

Re: 1996 Johnson 90hp throttle problem

Help!!!! I have put new throttle cabel and shift cable on and now when you put the throttle lever in reverse it shifts into reverse but the throttle on the engine does not move. When the throttle lever is put in forward the throttle cable moves the throttle on the engine, So I disconected the shifter cable from the control box and moved the throttle lever into reverse and the throttle on the engine moves. Only when the shifter cable is hooked up that it will no move the throttle on the engine. did I hook it up wrong? Please help!
